Reporters Without Borders Cyberdemo

Reporters Without Borders have been holding ‘cyberdemos’ for the lest 24 hours or so. They were inviting people online to virtually attend a demonstration against freedom of speech in the less liberal parts of the world. For example you could visit their digital version of Tiananmen Square and hold up your message of protest without the risk of being run over by a virtual tank.

It’s an interesting concept that’s been executed pretty well. And if it makes people more aware of how the freedom we take for granted is denied to millions of people around the world, it’s doing some good. I just don’t think it will have much affect on the offending governments that ban the internet itself.

See (or take part in) the virtual demo here.
